Herbst

Some people are required to wear a Herbst appliance during their treatment. The Herbst is used to help the lower jaw catch up in growth with the upper jaw.

When wearing the Herbst, your mouth will feel unusually full and speaking will be awkward. You may also notice more saliva than normal, but this will decrease as you become accustomed to it. Areas in the mouth, such as your cheeks, may become sore until you become used to the appliance. You should never try to adjust the appliance yourself.
